Slate Roofing in Kettering, Ohio

Slate Roofing in Kettering means roofing built for the Ohio climate - the heat, the humidity, and the storms. The Ohio heat and the humidity feed the algae and the moss on the shaded slopes, and the tree debris coats the surface.

Signs Your Kettering Roof Needs Slate Roofing

• Cracked or broken slates - the foot traffic or the debris has damaged the pieces
• Missing slates - the wind has pulled the individual pieces loose
• Leaks at the flashings - the slate itself is not the problem, the flashing is
• Granules or debris in the gutters - the synthetic slate is wearing
• Sagging areas - the structure may need reinforcement

Why Kettering Roofs Need Slate Roofing

The lifespan is the main reason. The natural slate roof lasts 75-100 years. The home will not need another roof.

The look is the second reason. The slate gives the home the distinctive, high-end appearance.

How We Do Slate Roofing in Kettering

1. Inspect the roof structure - the slate is heavy and the framing must support the weight
2. Install the underlayment - the waterproofing over the entire deck
3. Install the battens - the horizontal strips that support the slate
4. Lay the slate - the staggered pattern with the copper nails
5. Flash the penetrations - the copper flashing for the chimney and the vents

Preventing Problems in Kettering

• Inspect the roof after every storm - the wind can loosen the slates
• Check the flashings each spring - the copper lasts but the seals dry out
• Walk on the roof only when necessary - the slate is brittle under the foot traffic
• Keep the gutters clean - the debris holds the moisture against the slate

The slate roof in Kettering is the investment that lasts a lifetime. The natural slate handles the heat and the storms. The right installation and the occasional inspection keep the roof for 100 years.
